Jaya reviews department activities ahead of budget
It was business as usual for chief minister J. Jayalalithaa on Sunday as she reviewed the activities and schemes of four state government departments at the Secretariat here.
With the battle for the ballot at the reserved Assembly constituency of Sankarankoil in Tirunelveli district getting over with the polling on Sunday, the chief minister is gearing up for the budget for the fiscal 2012-13, which will be presented by the state finance minister O. Panneerselvam on March 26.
The government had deferred the budget session in view of the by-election in Sankarankoil. The first Assembly session for this year was held in January with the customary address by Governor K Rosaiah.
Most important among the subjects she reviewed was the industries department. The officials informed her about the new initiatives and also the memorandum of understanding (MoU) that could be signed within two weeks of Cabinet approval. These could pump into Tamil Nadu a total investment of Rs. 5,450 crore through about nine projects including Yamaha, Eicher Motors, TVS, Ti Cycles, Phillips Carbon, Sanmina-SCI, etc.
Ms Jayalalithaa also reviewed the micro, small and medium enterprises department, tourism and culture department and the backward classes, most backward classes and minorities welfare department.
