Jaya okays Rs60 crore to set up poultry schemes
Chief minister J. Jayalalithaa has allotted Rs60 crore for various poultry schemes including setting up of poultry clusters in seven districts on Friday.
An official release said she has directed setting up of 20 veterinary hospitals at Rs6 crore in the current year to provide medical treatment at the village level.
To enhance poultry animal production, she has directed creating two poultry clusters at Villupuram and Sankarankoil zones. A total of seven districts will be covered under the scheme with financial assistance of Rs20.31 crore for farmers in these districts to set up farms with a capacity of 1,000-5,000 broilers, the release said, adding that 230 poultry farms were planned to be set up in each of the districts.
She announced Rs2.40 crore for setting up poultry units to boost production of country’s fowl in 16 districts. Further, in an effort aimed at improving the fishing community, she announced increasing the quantity of subsidised kerosene supplied to fishermen.
The quantum has been increased from 200 to 250 litres. The government pays a subsidy of Rs25 per litre for country boats with external engine and this scheme will benefit fishermen of Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari districts, the release said.
With the government incurring an additional expenditure of Rs37.25 lakh for this purpose, Jayalalithaa has approved a sum of Rs47.60 crore towards it this year, it added.
