IPS trainee quizzed in cheating case
IPS trainee V. Varun Kumar, who is accused of cheating a woman, appeared before investigating officer Vasundhara Devi, assistant commissioner of Central Crime Branch, on Thursday in accordance with a Madras High Court order.
Kumar, of the 2011 IPS batch, against whom the city police has registered a case of cheating and breach of trust, has been asked to appear before the central crime branch police for inquiry for 10 days.
The court had directed the police not to arrest Kumar and had instructed the IPS trainee to surrender his laptop and mobile phones.
The judge passed interim orders on the anticipatory bail petitions of Varun Kumar and his parents and cautioned him against issuing threats to the complainant, IAS aspirant G. Priyadarshini who has lodged a complaint against Kumar, saying that she and Kumar were staying and preparing together for their civil services exams.
Priyadarshini claimed that Kumar had promised to marry her but had started demanding dowry soon after being selected for IPS and had later refused to marry her.
The IAS aspirant had even got the police to register a case against Kumar based on a court order.
