Infant goes missing at hospital
In yet another case of a new-born baby going missing from the RSRM Government Hospital in Royapuram, an auto-rickshaw driver approached the city police on Thursday stating that the baby his wife had delivered in the hospital has disappeared.
According to Mr Ravi of J.J. Nagar in Korukkupet, his wife Ms Kalaiarasi had delivered a baby girl on Sunday in the hospital. On Thursday morning when Ms Kalaiarasi was sleeping, someone kidnapped the child and fled.
“She was sleeping and the relative who was attending to her was away. When my wife woke she found the child missing,” Mr Ravi said.
The Royapuram police said that they were trying to trace the kidnapper. “It is a very crowded hospital where a number of women get admitted for delivery.
There is also no crowd control mechanism inside the hospital premises,” a police official said adding that they have not ruled out the possibility of a child-lifting racket operating inside the hospital.
Only a week back another couple had approached the police complaining that one of their new-born twins was missing from the hospital.
Mr Praveen Kumar, a fisherman and his wife Menaka had claimed that initial medical records had stated that they were going to have twins.
But after delivery at the RSRM hospital, the medical staff claimed that Manaka had delivered only one boy. When the mother asked about the other child, the hospital staff threatened her, Mr Kumar had said.
