High mast lamps, LED lights at Marina
As part of the Marina improvement programme, the city corporation has planned to install LED lights with inductions.
The private firm that will get the project will have to install the lights and maintain them for a period of five years, said sources.
The civic body will make a one-time payment of 50 per cent of the total cost and the remaining amount will be paid over the five-year contract period.
Besides the LED lights, the corporation will also install a couple of high mast lamps along the beach.
The city corporation bosses had also directed the officials to go for solar lights in all corporation-run schools and prominent government buildings.
The move is aimed to reduce the corporation’s electricity bill by about 20 per cent. The civic body, at present, spends close to Rs 20 crore towards annual electricity bills and street lights account for 25 per cent of this.
The city corporation council had given its nod last month for regularising shops along the Marina beach and had also announced the Rs 4.8 crore beautification project for the beach.
Under the project, the stretch from Anna memorial to Foreshore Estate will be renovated. The catamaran parking area near Foreshore Estate will be beautified and bamboo fencing will be provided at a cost of Rs 7 lakh. The corporation also plans to develop a giant chess board and an “interactive” fountain.
