Health minister launches largest oxygen tank in government hospital
The largest liquid medical oxygen storage tank in the city was inaugurated at the 348-year-old Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital on Wednesday by health minister V.S. Vijay.
With the liquid oxygen tank, huge volumes of oxygen can be compressed and stored that can be used for five days in a row. It also requires less storage space and needs very few people to handle, said the minister.
“Compressed oxygen can expand 800 times. Moreover, while using LOX tanks, 10 per cent of oxygen that is wasted in cylinders can be saved. We can save close to Rs 60 lakh every year if we use LOX tanks,” said Dr Kanagasabai, dean of GH.
The doctor said that there would be uninterrupted oxygen supply from the LOX tanks to all the wards in the hospital and that the GH was the first government hospital in the city to have such an installation.
“The tank has been installed at a cost of Rs 40 lakh by Inox Air products. It will be put to use within a week after obtaining the necessary permissions,” he added.
