HC rejects Zion school bail plea
A sessions court in Chengalpet on Tuesday rejected the bail plea of Dr N. Vijayan, the correspondent of Zion Matriculation School who was arrested in connection with the death of the six-year-old schoolgirl who slipped through a hole of the school bus on July 25.
The court also dismissed the bail petition of motor vehicle inspector Rajsekharan. Vijayan’s lawyer argued that it was just an accident case and contended that a school correspondent, who is an administrative head of school, should not be kept in remand without bail.
The prosecution countered that it was not an ordinary case of accident and that the incident had generated lot of public attention. The prosecution also noted that the case needs to be probed.
The police had arrested as many as seven people in connection with the accident in which Shruthi from Mudichur slipped through the hole in the school bus on her way home and was crushed under the back wheel of the vehicle.
Angry onlookers had set the bus on fire after evacuating the students from the bus.
The police had that night arrested Vijayan, bus owner Yogeswaran, driver Seeman and helper Shanmugham. The police had detained the MV inspector the next day.
On Sunday, the police picked up N. Paulraj, N.R. Ravi, Vijayan’s brothers, in connection with the case as those two were also involved in the school administration.
