HC gets safety devices worth Rs88 lac
The state government on Monday provided equipment, including portable explosive vapour detectors and handheld metal detectors, at a cost of Rs88 lakh to enhance security at the Madras high court.
The Comprehensive Security Scheme was implemented at the Madras high court on October 11, 2011, following the bomb blast at Delhi high court on September 7, 2011.
Nine door-frame metal detectors to scan the visitors were in place on the date of inauguration. About 360 police personnel were deployed to ensure foolproof security. Thereafter, CCTV cameras were installed at all the gates.
Now, the state government has provided five explosive vapour detectors, 18 handheld metal detectors, 70 walkie talkie VHF sets, 4 searchlights, 5 under vehicle search mirrors and two digital still cameras. All this equipment was displayed in a court hall.
The security committee of Chief Justice M.Y. Eqbal and Justices D. Murugesan and C. Nagappan witnessed the demonstration of the security equipment in the presence of assistant commissioner K.N. Murali, joint commissioner Senthamaraikannan and deputy commissioner Avinash Kumar. The judges enquired about the equipment and their efficacy in protecting the high court premises.
