Grateful Bar Council to felicitate chief minister
The Bar Council of Tamil Nadu (BCT) will hold a mega function to felicitate chief minister J. Jayalalithaa for announcing increase in the financial assistance under the Tamil Nadu Advocates Welfare Fund (TNAWF) from Rs 2 lakh to 5.25 lakh without any service period restriction in the event of death of an advocate.
Addressing the print and electronic media, BCT chairman D. Selvam said during the sesquicentennial valedictory function of the Madras high court, chief minister J. Jayalalithaa gave a pleasant surprise to the advocates by announcing the increase in advocates welfare fund and also a recurring annual government grant up to Rs 4 crore, for the Tamil Nadu Advocates’ Fund.
“The whole advocates community thank the CM. In order to felicitate the CM, a mega function will be held soon on the convenient date of the chief minister at Chennai,” he added.
Advocates across the state will participate in the function”, he added.
In a press release, V. S. Sethuraman, president, AIADMK Advocate wing, said, “The advocates’ community at large are overwhelmed about the announcement of chief minister J Jayalalithaa and express their gratitude.
In this connection, we the AIADMK advocates across the state also proposed to conduct thanks giving meetings with the permission of chief minister J Jayalalithaa.”
The Madras high court advocates association by its president G Mohanakrishnan passed a resolution on Monday thanking the chief minister for increasing the advocates welfare fund.
“The MHAA has decided to hold function to felicitate chief minister J Jayalalithaa this month”, said Mohanakrishnan.
In a press release, S Prabkaran, president of Tamil Nadu Advocates Association said, “Since 2008, the TNAA has been demanding increase in Advocates welfare fund.
Now, the chief minister has fulfilled our demand. We wholeheartedly thank chief minister J Jayalalithaa for gratifying our long time demand.”
Similarly, the Women Lawyers Association by its president D Prasanna and Tamil Nadu Federation of Women Lawyers by its president K Santhakumari expressed their gratitude to the chief minister for her kind gesture of great benevolence, as it was a manifestation of her regard and affection for the entire legal fraternity.
