Gang hacks man in clinic
Panic reigned at the Chengalpet government hospital early on Saturday when a five-member gang barged into the premises and hacked an arrack seller who was undergoing treatment.
The injured man was later shifted to the Rajiv Gandhi Government Hospital in Chennai where his condition is said to be critical.
Ramesh alias Rocky, 27, a resident of Villianur in Puducherry, and his friend Manoj were involved in selling arrack.
The two got into a tiff with members of their rival gang, Shankar and Rafiq, who were also in the same business.
A few days ago, the enmity took an ugly turn when the rival gang murdered Ramesh’s brother. Infuriated by the loss, Ramesh allegedly murdered Shankar and Rafiq a few months ago in Puducherry.
Shankar’s men then plotted to kill Ramesh. They then traced him to Acharapakkam a few days ago, where they hurled country bombs at him.
However, Ramesh escaped the bomb-attack with injuries and was admitted to the Chengalpet GH.
Police personnel were deployed at the hospital to protect Ramesh as it was felt that his life might be in danger.
Despite the presence of the police, a five-member gang came to Chengalpet GH around 5 am on Saturday, attacked Ramesh and fled.
Acharapakkam sub-inspector Damodaran who was on escort duty could not prevent the attack.
Police rushed Ramesh, who was grievously injured, to the government hospital in Chennai. A case has been registered by the Chengalpet police, who are on the lookout for the gang.
