Fun activities to keep summer cool
The summer vacations are just round the corner and it’s time for parents to plan activities and events to keep their children occupied.
However, with the number of play schools mushrooming across the city, there is a plethora of options to choose from.
Chandini Khanna, who runs the Hippo Campus play school in Adyar, has an exciting line up of workshops including photojournalism.
She says, “We want to offer the best to the kids. So we have roped in RJs from a city radio station to teach the basics of radio jockeying.
From recording techniques to voice modulation, the kids can pick up all the nuances of being on the radio.
On the last day of the workshop we will take them to the radio station for some hands-on experience. Similarly, we also have a photojournalist to train the kids in basic photography.”
Theatre workshops, personality development skills, dance and music programmes and fun day trips - you name it and it’s all there. Revathy, owner of Nikhil’s Kids Kingdom, says, “We have different activities planned for the younger and older kids.
While the tiny tots can indulge in storytelling and ‘artsy’ activities such as drawing and painting, the older kids can participate in workshops that teach the basics of voice and speech modulation, advanced communication techniques, theatre skills and so on.”
Parents want to offer their children the values and experiences that the schools usually miss out on. Some even let their children visit a blind school as part of the learning process.
Parent of daughter in Class 8 and a son in Class 6, fashion designer Erum Ali says, “The idea is to teach my children relevant social values. It’s not just about academics and preparing them for high-salaried jobs.
For example, during vacations my kids visit the school for the blind and read to the children there. They need to learn that life is not just about ‘I, me, and myself’.”
