Fresh landgrab case against Veerapandi Arumugam
Another land grab case has been registered against former agriculture minister and DMK strongman in Salem, Veerpandi S. Arumugam, who was lodged in Vellore prison under the Goondas Act.
N. Shanmugham, son of K. Nallappan of Uthamacholapuram at Sankari near Salem, on Tuesday lodged a complaint with Salem superintendent of police Aswin Kotnis alleging that Arumugam, along with his son Raja, personal secretary Sekar and then Salem tahsildar Sriranganathan, and usurped their 2.36 acre property in Uthamacholapuram.
Shanmugham added that in 2007, Sekar and Sriranganathan threatened his father Nallappan and asked him to transfer the land title to the minister.
The two also told Nallappan that the property would be taken over for a government infotech park project and he would suffer huge loss if he did not transfer it, he said.
The two had also assured him that the minister would get jobs for his sons in the IT park.
The duo later took Nallappan to the minister, where his son Veerpandi Raja also persuaded him to transfer the property, the complaint said.
When Nallappan insisted that he would not sign the sale deed without consulting his three sons, the minister’s son argued that his younger son Subramani was their man and obtained his signature.
Finally on 8.2.2007, the land currently estimated at Rs 2 crore was transferred to Salem Software Technology Development Trust for which the minister is said to be the chairman.
When asked, Salem SP Mr Aswin Coutniz told Deccan Chronicle that he has ordered a probe and sought a report of the same in a week.
