Four Maha men held for theft of `38L gold on bus
The city police on Friday cracked the theft case in which two employees of a jewellery shop in Mumbai were robbed of their jewels worth `38 lakh on a private bus in the city. Four persons from Maharashtra have been arrested in connection with the theft.
The complainant Sanjay Jain, 37, owns a jewellery shop in Mumbai. On September 28, he sent gold jewellery weighing six kilos with his employees Manoj and K.P Singh to be delivered at jewellery showrooms in Madurai, Coimbatore and Chennai. After completing their work in Madurai, the duo boarded a private bus to Chennai with 5.75 kg of gold.
“When the bus reached Tambaram, Manoj and Singh were shocked to find the bag containing the gold missing,” police said.
A special team formed to crack the case traced the accused to Maharashtra. Further investigations revealed that Vilas Bheemarao, Rama Rao and Chandu of Osmanabad in Maharashtra were behind the theft. “ The trio stole the valuables and sold them to Poonekar Tikole in Maharashtra. He was arrested and 191 sovereigns of gold was recovered from him,” police said.
