Fire breaks out in MLA’s house
A fire broke out in Pallavaram MLA Dhansingh’s residence early on Tuesday morning, damaging electronic equipment worth Rs 3 lakh, including a TV and computers.
The fire is said to have been caused by voltage fluctuations and a consequent spark in the airconditioner.
Members of Dhansingh’s family noticed smoke coming out of the room of the MLA’s son, Jayaprakash, at 6 am and attempted to douse the fire, according to police. Jayaprakash, who is the vice-chairman of Pallavaram municipality, was out on his morning walk.
Fire personnel rushed to the scene and doused the fire before it spread and caused further damage.
Supply of electricity to the area was also disconnected for a while to prevent short circuits.
Police have registered a case and investigations are on.
Residents of Kalyan Nagar complained that the locality was suffering from low voltage and erratic power supply for the past few months.
Local AIADMK party leaders also rushed to Kalyan Nagar and met the MLA and his family after the fire.
