Ex-staffer opens fire at colleagues
An employee of a steel company in Sathankadu in north Chennai, who was sacked by the new owner of the firm, walked into the office on Saturday evening and opened fire alleging that a former colleague was behind his expulsion.
“We believe it was a country made gun. He fired once and the bullet pierced the wall. Nobody was injured in the incident,” the police said.
Nandhulal, 38, a native of Rajasthan who was the manager of Jayasakthi Steel in Adyankuppam in Saathankadu, was believed to have indulged in financial malpractices in the company manufactures steel rods.
He was sacked by the management after the firm was taken over by Senthil from a man from Rajasthan.
“He was angry with one of the supervisors in the company who he thought was instrumental in his getting sacked,” the police said. Nandhulal was carrying a small firearm, police said, quoting employees of the firm.
After the shooting, which left the employees there shocked, Nandhulal fled.
“He was earlier staying in a room on the premises. After he was sacked, he was asked to vacate the room. We do not know his present address. It is possible that he had left the city and gone to his native state,” the police said.
