Ex-member threatens to sue DMK for inviting him
A former DMK member has threatened to sue the party accusing it of defaming him by including his name in the invitation card for a function to celebrate DMK president M. Karunanidhi’s birthday at suburban Guduvancheri next week.
Octogenarian ‘Misa’ Sundaramurthi said he had served the DMK for 45 years, which included a year’s ‘sacrifice’ in Vellore jail as Misa detainee during the Emergency in 1976.
“But I was expelled from the DMK five years back after my son Jayasankaran contested and won the panchayat president’s post after the party denied him ticket.
Even earlier, they (DMK) refused to give me the Assembly seat in Madurantakam in 1996. My son and I joined the AIADMK in 2007 and have been working tirelessly for Puratchi Thalaivi (Jayalalithaa)”, Sundaramurthi told Deccan Chronicle. He alleged that the DMK printed his name in the birthday invitation “deliberately to insult me and my son”.
He said when he phoned the DMK district secretary T.M. Anbarasan, he cut the line. “I will file a case unless the DMK apologises and withdraws my name from the invitation”, he said.
When asked for his reaction, Anbarasan told DC that the party invitation had Sundaramurthi’s name considering his “deep love for Kalaignar”.
When his son Jayasankaran phoned him to convey his objection, he told him that the name would be removed, said Anbarasan, a former minister.
