Euro 2012 keeps coffee shops abuzz after midnight
While the television at home satiates the appetite of middle class football fans, the affluent are turning to luxury hotels, where coffee shops and restaurants are abuzz after midnight ever since the Euro 2012 kicked off early June.
“Affluent” fans hang out at coffee shops and restaurants of star hotels in the city to see live telecast of the Euro 2012 matches on giant screens.
Cashing in on the football craze and fulfilling the appetite of the fans, the hotels not only keep their restaurants open past midnight but also provide live telecast on giant screens with special menus till the end of the match.
Some of the establishments have even named several items on their menus after popular football players for Euro 2012. The management of Residency Towers in T. Nagar, for example, have given South Indian delicacies a soccer touch with names like Rooney Relish, Ronaldo Rollicks etc.
Rooney Relish is a combination of vegetable sandwich and dessert plus soft drinks, while they serve traditional mutton/chicken biriyani with desserts and soft drinks as part of Ronaldo Rollicks.
Several other combo meals comprising sandwiches and burgers are served with soft drinks for football fans. The combo meals would be served from 11.30 pm, three quarters of an hour before the game and continue till 3.30 am.
Rooney and Ronaldo might have found form in the last leg of the league matches of the Euro 2012, but recipes named after them have been instant hits ever since their introduction early June, remarked a football loving hotel staff.
