Election dept site gets voter-friendly
In a bid to woo voters in the state, the election department has given a facelift to its website with user-friendly features, including video offerings.
‘Stand up and vote. You are 18,’ says the homepage, suggesting that the makeover was aimed at attracting young and new voters.
The website, with blue background, also has a blog enabling voters to give their feedback about the department and its functioning and has already got new members.
The website (www.elections.tn.nic.in) also has links leading to the election department’s group in social networking websites.
“The website has been given a cosmetic uplift with added features to facilitate users to browse the site easily,” state chief electoral officer (CEO) Praveen Kumar told Deccan Chronicle on Tuesday.
For instance, it has a provision ‘search your name with EPIC number’ which facilitates the user to locate the polling booth his name is attached to just by entering his/her voter ID number, said Mr Praveen Kumar.
“It also comprises a video facility which shows eminent personalities explaining the voting procedure and spreading awareness on voting. Affidavits of candidates can also be accessed easily,” said Mr Kumar.
The site has links to Youtube, facebook and Yahoo where a group had been already formed
for the chief electoral officer.
Mr Kumar said the work had been progressing for the past six months and would take a few more months to complete.
However, another website (ceotamilnadu.nic.in) of the department remains unchanged.
