Elderly woman robbed of Rs 6.40Lakh
Unidentified people broke into a farmhouse near Pallikaranai and allegedly tied up an elderly woman before robbing her of her valuables and cash worth Rs 6,40,000 early on Wednesday morning.
Christy, a 52-year-old resident of Ottiyampakkam village near Pallikaranai, was living alone in a farmhouse, police said.
Two unknown persons rang the doorbell around midnight on Tuesday. When Christy opened the door, the duo brandished a knife at her and threatened to kill her if she refused to part with her valuables.
The accused also demanded the keys to the almirah. Fearing for her life, Christy handed over the keys to the thieves who locked her along with her housemaid Nirmala, 43, in a room and took away around 30 sovereigns and the cash.
Even as the culprits were looting the house, two of their accomplices were standing on guard outside.
