EC begins roll revision work
Tamil Nadu election department is gearing up for preparatory works for the annual summary revision of electoral rolls as chief electoral officer Praveen Kumar held discussions with senior election officials from all districts, in the city.
Mr Kumar said that they discussed measures to be adopted by the district election officers while receiving applications for inclusion of names and in finalising the applications received during the exercise.
“The meeting was attended by 64 senior district election wing officials, two each from a district. A tahsildar (elections) and a master trainer, who would impart training to the election staff of their respective districts, participated in the discussions at Chennai corporation. As regards Chennai, DRO, elections, was among the two participants,” he noted.
Mr Kumar said the officials were advised about the approach to be adopted on identifying block-level officers (BLOs), who would play a key role in the drive, and about the training methods that are to be imparted to them. “The master trainers will train the other election staff of their districts.”
Every year, electoral rolls would be updated during the summary revision beginning by the end of September, in which persons who attain 18 years of age on a date specified by the commission, besides those who don’t figure in the list, would be allowed to enrol their names.
