DMDK to join bandh, says captain
DMDK founder president and Leader of Opposition Vijayakanth on Sunday said that the Centre’s decision to allow the foreign direct investment (FDI) in retail trade would affect the small traders.
Speaking to reporters here at the airport on his return from South Korea, he said that his party has been consistently opposing the FDI in retail trade as it was against the interest of small traders and people.
When asked whether his party would extend support for September 20 nationwide bandh against the government decision to hike the on diesel price hike and FDI in retail trade, he said that he would take a decision after consulting his party colleagues.
Condemning the police lathicharge on anti-Kudankulam protesters in Idinthakarai, he called upon the state government to come forward to find an amicable settlement on this issue. “The fuel should be loaded in the plant only after allaying fears among the public,” he said.
DMDK leader said that whenever the Centre hikes fuel price, it claims that the hike was necessitated following increase in crude oil price in the international market.
