Disabled to get welfare measures: CM
Chief minister J. Jayalalithaa announced a slew of measures including scholarships to students and foldable glowing walking sticks for the visually challenged with the aim of improving the lot of differently abled persons.
Financial assistance of Rs 1500 per year for X and XI standard students and Rs 2000 per year for plus two students of government and aided schools have been approved.
This is aimed at preventing drop-out.Also, Ms Jayalalithaa ordered the extension of the free travel scheme available to 2,390 differently abled students of training centres and nursery schools.
A disabled person and a companion can now avail of the service on state-owned buses free of cost. This should facilitate to a great extent travel for the disabled.
