Daylight murder : Thief steals gold, kills pawnbroker

In a gruesome incident, a pawnbroker was slain in broad daylight and the murderer decamped with gold worth lakhs of rupees from the shop at Nerkundram near Maduravoyal on the outskirts of the city on Saturday.

According to Maduravoyal police, a stranger walked into Sri Balaji Jewellery and pawn broker shop owned by 28-year-old Ganesh Ram on Patel Road at Sakthi Nagar in Nerkundram in the guise of a customer.

In the pretext of purchasing some old jewellery, the stranger had a brief conversation and accordingly pawn broker Ganesh Ram went to his strong room to bring some old jewellery unaware that he was tailed by the stranger.

Minutes later, the stranger bolted the strong room from within, overpowered Ganeshram and stabbed him to death in a few minutes before taking away some jewels, the police said adding that most the booty was covering.

Curiously, the alleged mu-rderer’s image was caught on the surveillance camera in the pawnshop. The cops released the footage or im-ages of the robber-murderer in the evening.

Ironically, deceased Ganesh Ram installed the surveillance camera several months back after the robbers hit his pawnshop then, sources say.
