A day in company of Union minister GK Vasan
The clock struck 6 in the morning and G.K. Vasan, son of his illustrious father, G.K. Moopanar, dressed in milk white dhoti and shirt, got out of his car at zero gate in Chennai port trust on Monday.
Holding the high-profile shipping ministry portfolio, where board meetings and decision-making happen in star hotels, Mr Vasan travelled with the press entourage in a tempo traveller and did some plain talking.
“There is no place for ego in this world. We are here today. We don’t know what will happen tomorrow. So, let’s work together for people’s betterment. I have even told my officials to discuss things with the state government and expedite works,” he said.
Simple and affable, Mr Vasan said he was currently awaiting responsibilities for the presidential elections.
He chatted about the multi-crore projects of Chennai port on the roadside. He made sure mediapersons tasted all the food, including his favourite vadacurry, during breakfast at the sports stadium in Tiruvotriyur.
Later in the day, at the FIEO national shipping conclave, mingling freely with the industry captains, he said, “I might not stay till the end of the conference, but I will keep tab of the proceedings.”
