‘Court’ martial for lt Col
“I am happy that justice has prevailed. However, the court verdict is not going to bring back my son, today is not a cause for celebration,” said an aggrieved K Kalaivani, mother of 13-year-old Dilshan, who was shot dead ten months ago by a retired army officer for plucking almonds inside his residential premises.
Recounting her memories of her son Dilshan, K Kalaivani said, “Dilshan was full of beans, he was friendly with everyone in the locality. He was attached to me. I doubt I will ever find happiness.”
“For the past ten months, I spent sleepless nights. We miss Dilshan so much. I am not too pleased with the verdict. My son’s killer will be out one day,” She added.
Since Dilshan’s father, Kumar was too ill to support the family, Dilshan and two of his siblings were forced to quit school and go to work. The family had pinned a lot of hope on Dilshan to pay off the debt borrowed for the medical treatment of his ailing father.
“Presently my family is living off my eldest son, Dileepan’s earnings. I haven’t spent a penny from the relief amount given by the Chief Minister. I need the government to provide me a job to take care of my family.
While handing over the solatium of Rs5 lakhs, Tamil Nadu Finance Minister O. Paneerselvam assured that CM J Jayalalitha would offer me a government job. But we have not received any communication from the CM’s office so far.
However, I am planning to pay a visit to the CM’s office and submit a memorandum,” Kalaivani said.
