Court heat on IAS officers
The Madras high court on Wednesday ordered notice to the state government on a petition seeking a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe against IAS officers, a district revenue officer and a tahsildar among several revenue officials of Vellore district for their alleged involvement in a landgrab case in Tirupattur.
Justice S. Nagamuthu admitted the direction petition filed by K. Navin Karunakaran of Chennai, who claimed that he is the absolute owner of 2.41 acres of land at Nilavur in Thirupattur Taluk of Vellore and has a sale deed his grandfather, the late Ramachandran, had executed in his favour on September 5, 2006.
However, an advocate, Thangaraj, attempted to interfere with the possession fraudulently by purchasing 0.80 cents of it from the sons of Puttan Kali and, subsequently, tried to influence the revenue administration to obtain patta to the land purchased, the petitioner said.
Revenue officials DRO to the VAO committed offences such as falsely creating a file and obtaining orders by misleading and misinterpreted information, he alleged.
The petitioner referred to an FIR in crime no. 11 of 2012 by the Vellore landgrab cell against the revenue officials on April 30, 2012.
He said there was no response to his letter to the chief secretary seeking transfer of a few officials.
Navin also accused the revenue officials, at the helm of the district administration then, of influencing other officials to not cooperate.
The people involved include IAS officers Haneez Chabra and Lalitha Lakshmi, tahsildar Palanivelu and DRO Sundaravalli.
