Corporation to re-lay 500 roads
Chennai corporation has planned to re-lay around 500 roads before the onset of northeast monsoon. The corporation has allotted over Rs195 crore for the restoration of roads.
According to a press statement from the Chennai corporation, tenders have been called for a total of 1,200 roads covering a total distance of 248.56 km. A sum of Rs108.07 crore has been allotted for the works. The project is expected to gain momentum by the end of this month. Besides, tender for a 95.28 crore package for laying 959 concrete roads has been finalised and works will be completed in a month, said a senior corporation officials.
Meanwhile, re-tender has been invited for laying 241 roads at a cost of Rs12.79 crore. According to the release, Alandur zone has been allocated Rs13.18 crore, which is the highest allotment for a zone.
Madhavaram zone will get 211 new roads covering a distance of 38,266 km, which is the highest among all zones. Adyar zone stands second in the list with a package for 120 roads.
The proposed plastic and cement concrete roads will bring about a change in the city, the official exuded confidence.
