Cops fight it out in public
A policeman in civilian clothes attached to the traffic intelligence section (IS) was allegedly assaulted by a traffic policeman at the busy Nandanam signal while the former was taking video of the latter.
The two fought in public at 9.30 am, leaving the onlookers shocked for some time until some of the onlookers separated the fighting cops.
Sources in the police department indicated that man in uniform was accepting bribe from a driver of a load auto rickshaw for allowing him to drive through the lane dedicated for MTC buses from Nandanam signal towards Anna flyover.
However, senior police officials brushed it aside, saying there was no bribery issue. The IS man, on his bike, was trying to drive via the dedicated lane when the argument between the two started and it ended up in the two officers fighting with each other, a senior police official said.
“The fight was between Sankar, a traffic head constable, and Shajahan, a head constable attached to the traffic IS. Both were found rolling on the ground,” sources said.
“Only after some other motorists intervened when they say a uniformed man being assaulted, did the two stop fighting. When the public came to know that the man was also part of the police force, they went away,” said the sources.
According to a senior police official, an internal inquiry has been ordered into the indecent incident of two policemen fighting in public.
Deputy commissioner, traffic (south), has been asked to conduct an inquiry and submit a report on the incident.
