CM grantsRs 1.24cr for dental college
As part of an initiative to upgrade the facilities at Government Dental College here, chief minister J. Jayalalithaa has announced an allocation of Rs 1.24 crore to the hospital for purchasing equipment. This will help in offering better treatment to patients.
According to a release here on Tuesday, the amount will be spent to purchase 149 dental chairs. This follows an announcement by Ms Jayalalithaa in the Assembly in April that the Government Dental Hospital would be upgraded as a Centre of Excellence in Dentistry at a cost of Rs 10 crore.
Ms Jayalalithaa said her government has been taking various steps to improve the health infrastructure in the state.
The primary health centres (PHCs) have been upgraded to ensure that people in rural areas obtained medical facilities on par with those in urban areas.
Also, measures were being taken to construct additional buildings and renovate existing facilities at hospitals all across Tamil Nadu.
Ms Jayalalithaa recalled that the dental college here was expanded during her previous tenure and a new building was also constructed then.
Further, in an effort to provide various health care options to people, the chief minister had in January this year ordered the establishment of Siddha wings at 10 ESI hospitals in the state including Tambaram, Sriperumbudur and Tiruvottiyur. She also ordered creating 20 new vacancies to implement the initiative.
