CM exhorts councillors to make city No.1
Chief minister J. Jayalalithaa on Tuesday exhorted AIADMK councillors of Chennai corporation to scale up their performance so as to realise her goal to make the state capital the best among Indian metropolitan cities.
She has even set a July 31 deadline for her 173 councillors (of total 200 in the city civic body), according to an informed source here.
“We have pledged our commitment to meet the CM’s goal. She had done a thorough study of the problems and knew how to work towards solutions.
We were surprised by the details she had in her possession,” said an AIADMK councillor requesting anonymity.
A few councillors found wanting were also pulled up, he added, recalling that she had conducted similar sessions with the city councillors during her previous term in office.
Another councillor said the CM told them that their performance should be people-oriented “unlike the previous DMK regime when councillors minted money”. She wanted the councillors to identify problems in their wards and come up with practical solutions.
“CM also promised us that we will get all the support we need from the corporation officials so that together, we can deliver results,” he said.
