At click of mouse, know where bus is
Soon you can track the movement of state transport corporation buses from your living room.
Plans are afoot to distribute global positioning system (GPS)-enabled GPRS electronic hand-held ticketing machines to conductors of state run buses, with the transport department recently floating tenders to procure 44,000 such ticketing machines.
The GPS-fitted ticketing machines will enable officials and commuters to monitor the movement of buses at the click of a mouse.
“The main objective of the project is to modernise the passenger ticketing system with effective use of information technology to provide maximum benefits to the travelling public and state transport undertakings,” said a senior official in the government.
“The nodal agency, Pallavan Transport Consultancy Services, has invited bids from private firms to procure 44,000 GPS-enabled GPRS electronic ticketing machines (ETMs),” said the official.
