Bars in five star hotels in Chennai and Tiruchy will function round-the-clock from now onwards. The Tamil Nadu government issued an order to this effect recently.

The G.O. also allows bars in other hotels to function till 12 midnight. However, Tasmac bars will continue to close at 10 pm.

“The hours of business for five star hotels in Chennai and Tiruchy, where the international civil airports are situated, and the five star hotels in the cities of Coimbatore and Madurai who opt to pay double the amount of privilege fee, shall be 24 hours, and for other hotels, the hours of business shall be from 11 am to 12 midnight,” the G.O. said.

The government has also hiked steeply the fee for FL3 and FL2 licensed bars.

For example, it is doubled from Rs 8 lakh to Rs 16 lakh for five star hotels.

The G.O., issued in the last week of June this year, also suggests increasing the annual privilege fee for FL2 bars from Rs 4 lakh to Rs 10 lakh in Chennai and `6 lakh in other cities.
