CCTV shield for high court soon
The entire premises of the Madras HC will soon come under the watchful eyes of police personnel manning surveillance cameras.
“We are now fixing CCTV cameras at various gates of the high court on a experimental basis,” said a senior police official on Tuesday.
The installation of cameras is part of the comprehensive security system put in place following a bomb blast in front of Delhi high court in September.
The security arrangements at the high court premises were thinned after the February 19, 2009, clash between the police and lawyers on the campus.
The first phase of comprehensive security system came to effect in October last year. Under the system, advocates entered the high court premises through gate-2 – north gate, gate-3, gate -4, gate-5, gate-6 and gate-7.
Litigants who accompanied lawyers entered through gate 2 and 3. Other litigants were allowed to enter only through gate-5 on production of valid entry pass. Police personnel and door frame metal detectors have already been deployed.
