The CBI on Friday opposed the bail application of suspended IG Pramod Kumar arrested in connection with the Tirupur Paazee scam case.

Seeking to dismiss the officer’s bail plea, the CBI, in its counter filed before the Madras high court, said that Pramod Kumar had accepted Rs 2.85 crore as bribe from the directors of M/s Paazee Group of companies through subordinate police officers as a motive for allowing the directors of the company to delay the repayment to the depositors and not to repay the depositors against the orders of the HC.

The CBI further stated that the officer had demanded an illegal gratification of Rs 10 crore through his subordinate officers and abused his official position as IG, West Zone then.

Submitting that the custodial interrogation of the officer had led to emergence of new names and facts that incriminate his role, the CBI petition said the officer, if let out on bail, would tamper the documents and intimidate the witnesses and likely witnesses to who are police officers on whom he has considerable influence directly and indirectly.

Accusing the officer of conducting himself in a manner tantamount to contempt to orders of the HC in Criminal OP No: 20857 dated October 8, 2009, the CBI added that the IG intervened in the constitution of the committee of police officers to supervise the repayment to depositors besides influencing his juniors in posting certain police officers to CCB Tirupur for the purpose of extorting money from the accused Paazee directors.

Stating that Mr Kumar, through his accomplices such as police officers working under him and private individuals, advised the accused Paazee directors to not pay or delay payment to the depositors, the CBI said the events elaborated the ulterior motives of the officer. Justice M M Sundaresh posted the case hearing to Monday afternoon.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.
