CB-CID directed to probe death of B.E. student
The Madras high court on Wednesday directed the government advocate to get instructions from the city police commissioner on the transfer of investigation to CB-CID into the mysterious death of a student of a private engineering college at Surapet near Ambattur.
Justice S. Nagamuthu gave direction on a petition from Ponnurangam, father of Saravanan, seeking transfer of investigation from Ambattur police to CB-CID.
The petitioner’s younger son, Saravanan, was in the second-year mechanical engineering course in a private college in Surapet and stayed in the college hostel, according to advocate S. Prabakaran. Saravanan was found dead in the toilet on October 30, 2011.
The death was under mysterious conditions and though it was a clear case of murder, the college management was attempting to make it appear a case of natural death to protect its reputation, the petition claimed. The local police was colluding with the management, it alleged.
The boy was healthy and was not suffering from any disease. The petitioner’s family members found several abrasions and contusions on the body of Saravanan at the mortuary in KMC. The post mortem report confirmed this.
The government advocate said as the body was found in the toilet, the police initially thought that the boy fell down and died and they would proceed further with the investigation now.
“To avoid any comment from the court, you speak to the commissioner to transfer the case to some other police,” the judge said and posted the case to June 11 for compliance.
