Cauvery meet in SC hands: MoS
At a time when Tamil Nadu is insisting upon the Centre convening a meeting of the Cauvery River Authority (CRA) to resolve the issue with neighbouring Karnataka, Union minister in PMO V. Narayanasamy has claimed that only the Supreme Court could say something on convening the meeting as cases are pending before it.
“Both Tamil Nadu and Karnataka have moved the Supreme Court on this issue and the matter is sub judice. The Prime Minister cannot intervene. But, steps would be taken to ensure Tamil Nadu gets its share of Cauvery water (from Karnataka),” he said in response to a query on chief minister J. Jayalalithaa’s plea for a meeting of the CRA.
Mr Narayanasamy told reporters on Saturday that Ms Jayalalithaa and DMK leader M. Karunanidhi have written to the Prime Minister on convening a meeting of CRA. But only the SC could say something about it.
On Karnataka’s contention that the TN Hogenakkal drinking water project fell in Karnataka, Mr Narayanasamy asserted that Hogenakkal was very much a part of TN and there was no need for any survey as demanded by Karnataka.
Stating that as Anna Hazare’s team lacked unity, “there is no need for us to break their unity as alleged”, he said. Anna Hazare was genuine but some of the members of his team were corrupt and only such “corrupt” members were trying to break it. He welcomed Hazare’s decision to float a political party.
To a question, he said, “Our leader Rahul Gandhi finding a place in the Cabinet is a proud moment for every Congressman. However, this will be decided by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi.”
