Call helpline to find about GHs
A round-the-clock helpline will be launched soon to answer the queries of the public about various government hospitals in the state and the facilities and treatment provided by them.
The helpline would also double up as a centralised monitoring system to help find solutions for the medical problems faced by patients.
The government would also provide laptops to village health nurses.
Replying to the demand for grants for his department in the assembly, health minister V.S Vijay said that efforts were beingmade to get the MCI’s nod to get additional seats for Kilpauk medical college and Chengalpet medical college.
The minister said Rs 20 crore would be spent on improving operation theatres in the government hospitals. The unhygienic condition of mortuaries in government hospitals would be changed soon. “The morgues across the state will be modernised at an investment of Rs 10 crore and proper cooling systems and air conditioners will be set,” he said.
With the increasing number of patients, especially children, the government would soon set up a tissue bank at the Kings Institute of Preventive Medicine in Guindy and placenta, which helps in healing burns, will be stored.
“ We also plan to set up counselling centres in all districts from where people can get pre-marital counselling, family counselling and even teenagers can get their doubts cleared,” said Dr Vijay.
In order to help new mothers, the government would arrange for vehicles to drop them at home after they deliver children at government hospitals.
