Bus rules to be tabled in Cabinet
The state government on Wednesday informed the Madras high court that draft rules to regulate the use of vehicles carrying schoolgoing children is ready and will placed before the Cabinet in a couple of days.
Government pleader S. Venkatesh requested the court for more time, following which a division bench of Chief Justice M.Y. Eqbal and Justice A. Arumughasamy posted to August 29 further hearing of the case.
The bench, which had suo motu taken note of the death of six-year-old Shruthi on falling through a hole in the floor of a school bus, had on July 27 directed the government to produce a Draft Rule before it within two weeks.
Meanwhile, Justice G.M. Akbar Ali on Wednesday granted bail to the driver of the bus, Seeman, who was arrested on July 25, on the condition that he executes a bond for Rs 10,000 with two sureties each for a like sum and reports to the St.Thomas Traffic Investigation police every day at 10 am for 15 days.
The judge also granted bail to N. Paulraj, administrative officer of Zion School and Ravi, transport operator who was entrusted with the maintenance of school buses, who were arrested on July 19, on a bond of Rs 10,000 with two sureties.
The two are to stay at Trichy and report to the JM-I, Trichy at 10.30 am every day for four weeks.
