Big changes in edu sector
In the last one year, Tamil Nadu’s school education sector saw several student-friendly measures like implementation of continuous and comprehensive evaluation (CCE) and trimester system, besides providing a fillip to university research by creating centres of excellence in research and development in 10 important and specific areas.
Deccan Chronicle was the first to report about the trimester pattern to be introduced in the state. With the implementation of CCE in the state it made state board students compete with their counterparts in the central board of secondary education.
The trimester pattern helped schools reduce students’ bag load drastically as kids’ books were trifurcated.
The government’s decision to provide laptop to government school and college students was hailed by people from various strata of society.
While it was just a dream for students from the rural areas to work on a computer, the government’s scheme to offer laptops helped them realise that dream.
On the higher education front, 2011 saw several things happen like common entrance test for engineering institutions across the country.
The Dr Ramaswami committee, constituted to recommend to the government about the feasibility of having one common entrance test, suggested modalities which were accepted by the Union government.
