B.E. colleges hike fees by Rs7,500
The permanent fee fixation committee for self-financing engineering colleges in the state has hiked fees by Rs7,500 for government and management quota seats.
Students joining private engineering colleges under the government quota would have to pay Rs40,000 for non-accredited courses in B.E / B.Tech / B.Arch courses and Rs45,000 for accredited courses, while management quota students would have to pay Rs70,000 per year.
The fees for management quota seats in private engineering colleges have been hiked after a gap of four years with the permanent committee last revising the fees in 2008.
The directorate of technical education (DoTE) has sent showcause notices to 25 private engineering colleges out of the 60 colleges against whom it had received complaints of excess fees collection.
Justice N.V. Balasubramanian announced the revised fee structure and said that the committee sought details of revenue and expenditure before fee revision.
“After hearing the views of the public, college management representatives and associations, the committee has arrived at the fee structure,” Justice Balasubramanian said.
The Commissioner of Technical Education Ramesh Chand Meena said that the inspection committee had received petitions on over 60 engineering colleges and showcause notices had been sent to 25 of them.
“Some colleges have responded and we are waiting for responses from others. We are in touch with legal authorities to know what can be done,” he said.
