B.Com student kidnapped
A second-year B.Com student of a private college in Tiruchy was allegedly abducted on Sunday evening.
The boy’s parents filed a complaint with the Chidambaram town police on Monday after they had received a call demanding ransom of Rs2 crore.
Police sources said 21-year-old Mohammed Faizal, son of Mohammed Yaseen, 55, an industrialist in Chidambaram, was a student of the Jamaal Mohammed College in Tiruchy. Faizal had come home on Friday, October 5, and left by train for college on Sunday, October 7.
However, on Sunday, the hostel warden, Mohammed Ismail, called up Faizal’s parents in Chidambaram when there was no trace of him.
On Monday evening, an unidentified person called up Yaseen on his mobile and demanded a ransom of Rs2 crore for the release of his son. The caller also threatened to poison Faizal if the family alerted the police.
A senior police official told Deccan Chronicle that three special police teams had fanned out to Nagore, Vedaranyam and Tiruchy to nab the callers by tracking calls from the mobile phone.
“We suspect that Faizal could have been abducted by close relatives following a property dispute with Mohammed Yaseen,” he said.
A case has been registered and inquiries are on.
