Auto rickshaw driver robs 2 of 2.5 kg of gold

An auto rickshaw driver robbed two employees of Muthoot Finance of gold coins weighing 2.5 kg worth over Rs 60 lakh at Koyambedu Wednesday.

The driver and an aide sharing his seat attacked Senthil Kumar and Ramanathan from the firm’s Coimbatore and Pollachi branches with a knife at around 10.30 pm when they were carrying the gold to their offices.

The two were scheduled to take a bus from Koyam-bedu to Coimbatore and hired an auto rickshaw from Egmore.

“We had taken Poonamalee High Road. When the auto reached the Koyambedu grade separator, instead of taking left, the driver took the flyover saying he knew a short cut to Omni Bus Stand. Down the flyover he took a left into a small lane,” they claimed.

As the driver stopped, his aide stepped out with a knife, attacked Senthil and they fled with the gold.
