Agents behind gun-running?
The police suspects that agents employed by various professional colleges and private universities in Tamil Nadu who bring in students from North India were into gun running.
Police personnel feel that ‘student recruiting’ agents who handle huge cash, is part of the illegal gun procurement chain.
“Sylesh Yadav was an active agent who used to bring in students from states like Bihar. In the Neelankarai case, we found he had handed over the gun to one of the students who threatened his cook with the firearm,” a senior police officer said adding that it was possible for such agents to indulge in gun running.
Most agents are from North India who know the people in those states. They come here and join the private professional colleges.
After developing contacts in a few colleges and universities in a couple of years, they drop out and become full-fledged agents who function on commission basis.
Though many professional colleges and private varsities had denied employing agents, police prefers to believe in the existence of such a system.
It is easy for them to procure guns in certain North Indian states, where guns are made like in cottage industry.
