22 women rescued from flesh trade
Police rescued as many as 22 women, including a few junior artistes and a minor girl, and arrested 11 persons, including nine women, on Tuesday who were allegedly involved in flesh trade.
CB-CID sleuths swung into action after the women who were being taken in bus stopped the vehicle and got down when they learnt that they were being lured for flesh trade and not for the promised job with a decent salary.
“We received information that an argument was going on between a group of young women and another group on a road in Guindy.
Our team rushed to the scene and found that as many as 22 women, including a minor, were being taken to a farmhouse on East Coast Road where the women were to ‘entertain’ foreign guests,” a CB-CID official told Deccan Chronicle.
The women were picked up from various points in the city after they were offered good jobs with handsome salaries.
On the way, two men from Chennai identified as Thamim Ansari and Joy, who were acting as coordinators, told the women that they were being taken to a farmhouse in ECR where several foreigners were gathered.
The women were asked to entertain the foreigners, said the official. Many of the women objected and the argument between them and the coordinators led to the bus being stopped in Guindy.
“We were then informed of the incident and rushed to the spot and took custody of Thamim Ansari and Joy along with nine women who were working as their agents to lure women into the flesh trade,” said the police.
“All the 22 rescued adult women were sent to government home, while the minor girl was sent to juvenile home,” the police.
Thamim Ansari told the police that he was also involved in the real estate business.
