2 students drown in city suburbs
Two school students drowned in separate incidents in the southern suburb on Tuesday.
The students were identified as L Kannan, 14, and R. Lokeswaran, 7.
The body of Kannan, who had left his Chromepet home said he had special class at school and was found in a water-filled quarry in Thiruneermalai.
“It seemed he lied at home about the special class at school to go with his friends to the quarry site to play in the water along with his friends where he drowned,” the police said.
His body surfaced on Tuesday.
Kannan, son of an auto rickshaw driver, residing at Lakshmi Nagar had left the home with his three friends on Monday morning.
His parents started searching for him on Monday evening without knowing that the teen had drowned in the water filled quarry.
Three students had drowned in the same quarry in 2007.
In the second incident that took place on Tuesday morning, a 7-year-old boy, Lokeswaran, slipped into a temple tank and drowned.
The police said that the boy never knew swimming but was trying feed fish in the temple tank with biscuits when he slipped into the water and drowned.
The boy was expected to go to standard II in the new academic year.
Perkankaranai police has registered a case.
Both the bodies have been sent to the GH for post mortem.
