2 held for taking pic on Dreamliner

Two men from Kerala, who took pictures sitting in the business class seats of Air India Dreamliner and de-boarded the aircraft bound for New Delhi, were interrogated by security agencies at the city airport.

Ameer Thwaha, 34, of Perumbavur, Ernakulam, and Mansoor, 19, Madavore, Ernakulam, had taken the tickets, each costing Rs 36,000, from the airport counter on Wednesday morning and boarded the flight.

Ameer was a member of the National Development Front, an aggressive Muslim outfit, which was banned, sources here said. The police here have detained them for suspicious behaviour and will be checking their background.

The local police have got in touch with the Kerala police to do a background check on the two men from that state. The two were allotted 1A and 1F, both window seats in the first row of the executive class.

The duo, carrying only hand luggage, had then taken photographs of the interior and cockpit of the aircraft using a mobile phone which had no SIM card.

Ten minutes before the scheduled take-off, they requested to de-board the plane, which was allowed by the airline crew. They claimed that they were not feeling well and were ready to forfeit the ticket fare.

“The flight, with 206 passengers, was supposed to take off around 10.45. But the de-boarding and subsequent checks inside the aircraft delayed the take-off by 75 minutes,” airport sources said.

After the first round of interrogation, the police said they had done the same on a Chennai– Bengaluru–Cochin flight on Tuesday. They de-boarded and rescheduled their travel for October 6. After that they went to the Chennai central railway station and stayed in a retiring room.

On Wednesday morning, they reached the airport and took tickets using a HDFC credit card. The two had five credit cards in hand.Kerala police had confirmed the address and identity of of Ameer and Mansoor.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
