14-yr-old locked up in classroom
A 14-year-old schoolboy survived a four-hour long nightmare after he was mistakenly locked up in the classroom after school hours on Friday evening.
Prabakar, a Class 8 student of the government middle school at Nedungundram village near Tambaram, stayed back in the classroom because of a headache when his classmates went out to play during the last physical education training (PET) class.
His classmates went home from the playground after the PET class, leaving Prabakar, who had fallen asleep in the classroom, behind.
The guard, while shutting all classrooms, also locked the room in which Prabakar was asleep as he did not notice the boy sleeping there.
The child, hailing from Dharmapuri, was staying in an orphanage at Sadhanandapuram, near the school.
As he did not return till late in the evening, the manager of the orphanage, Christopher, made an extensive search at the homes of his friends and nearby areas with the help of orphanage staff.
As the search party was passing through the school on its way back to the orphanage, they heard Prabakar’s cries for help.
The relieved orphanage staff rescued the terrified boy with the help of the school’s headmaster.
The boy who had woken up late in the evening, panicked on finding himself locked inside the classroom. He managed to open the window and cry for help.
