10% discount on crackers in state-run shops
State-owned cooperative stores will sell crackers worth Rs 5 crore this year. Over 300 varieties of crackers and 15 different gift boxes will be available in 14 outlets in the city.
Happy over last year’s profit of Rs 4 crore, cooperative stores will sell crackers at 10 per cent discount this Deepavali.
Elaborating on Deepavali sales, TUCS (Triplicane Urban Cooperative Society) special officer R.G. Sakthi Saravanan said, “We buy fresh stock of crackers every year. Unlike many private shops where the unsold cracker stocks are stored for next year’s sales, we return the stock after Deepavali. Compared to last year, price of crackers has risen up to 40 per cent this year. Yet, we offer discount.” He said prices of crackers in TUCS stores were the same as those of Sivakasi depots for wholesale purchase.
