  • QDescribe your favourite writing space?

It’s not about the space; it’s basically about the mood. I can write in a coffee shop, a train, at home or any other place for that matter.
  • QDo you have a writing schedule?

No schedule. I just can’t follow them! I need a cheerful and a fresh frame of mind to write.
  • QEver struggled with writer’s block?

Yes, of course. I wrote 70 per cent of my book in the first two months, but it took me another six to eight months to finish it off.
  • QWhat inspires you to write? Do you have a secret trick, or a book/author that helps?

My wife’s faith in me is my inspiration. There is no extraordinary trick. The plot of the novel keeps on revolving in my mind 24×7 and whenever a good thought strikes me, I note it down. You can still find some drafts in my cellphone.
  • QCoffee/tea/cigarettes — numbers please — while you are writing?

I don’t smoke or drink tea. But a good cold coffee triggers me.
  • QWhich books are you reading at present?

The Immortals of Meluha by Amish.
  • QWho are your favourite authors?

J.K. Rowling, for her astonishing imagination, and Chetan Bhagat.
  • QWhich book/author should be banned on grounds of bad taste?

  • QWhich is the most under-rated book?

I don’t know actually... I have always read the famous ones.
  • QWhich are your favourite children’s books?

The Magic Faraway Tree by Enid Blyton and Hans Andersen’s Fairy Tales.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
