Tough going for regional satraps

Amid growing trends towards polarisation, regional satraps will find it difficult to check national parties like the Congress and the BJP in the coming Lok Sabha elections.

‘No final decision on PM candidate’

The Congress on Monday indicated that it will be wrong to conclude that the party will not declare Rahul Gandhi as party’s prime ministerial candidate ahead of the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, as the issue is yet to be decided. The party’s stand on the issue has come amidst conflicting claims made by senior leaders, including Digvijay Singh.

Rahul Gandhi meets Prez

President Pranab Mukherjee and Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi had a luncheon meeting on Monday.
Mr Gandhi’s lunch with Mr Mukherjee happened two days after the young leader attended a meeting of the party’s core group. He is considered to be an interface between the party and the government, for the first time.
